Anheuser Busch Boycott
AB Inbev and it’s distributors are against Alabama Jobs and Alabama Craft Beer
It was announced last Friday that Free the Hops, an Alabama advocacy group for craft beer consumers, was initiating a boycott on a group of beer wholesalers in the state. This was a direct response to political tactics these distributors are using against legislation which Free the Hops is promoting this year.
The legislation that Free the Hops is promoting includes the Brewery Modernization Act, which would help the growth of the state’s brewing industry, as well as The Gourmet Bottle Bill, which would legalize specialty beer sold in 22 oz. or 750 mL bottles. For several years, Free the Hops has taken the lead in promoting legislation to improve the quality and availability of craft beer in this state. In 2009, they were successful in passing the Gourmet Beer Bill, which legalized many craft beverages in Alabama.
To show our support for this legislation, our local breweries, and for Free the Hops, El Rey Burrito Lounge is participating in this boycott. We will put in no new orders with Bama Budweiser, our local distributor that is subject to the boycott, until this matter is resolved.
Kegs and packaged beer that is already at El Rey will continue to be sold until it is gone, but our inventory will not be replenished until the boycott is lifted. It is our sincere hope that this issue is resolved quickly, and that we can continue stocking our restaurant with the products from our friends at Bama Budwesiser soon.
We understand that this may upset some customers who enjoy the many products that Bama Budweiser distributes. We ask for your support and patience during the boycott.
